Names

Ananya is with her achamma. Last evening we were on the phone. She goes...
"Acha, oru kaaryam chodichotte"
"Ha, mole"

"Daddy, everyone in this world is different no?"
"Yes, mole"

"Then why do people not have different names"
"I believe it could be because peoples imagination is limited. Also I will not be able to know what another baby born at the same time as mine is being called"

" Why does my name's meaning not have anything to do with the kind of person I am "
" It is difficult to predict what kind of a person you will turn out to be when you grow up."

"Why don't you wait to see what the child will be like before you name them."
"How do you call them then"
"You can call them child and childo or something. The problem will be if you have twins. "

" mmmm. See sometimes if the parents don't name a child or call them by a nick name, and gives the child a name when they grow up, maybe the child won't accept it. And it could be embarrassing "

"Can I talk to mama"

"Yes, please. And ask her the same question"

Eunuch Friend

If I had a eunuch friend, what would he wear to school - the girl's uniform or the boy's.

The "key chain"

Ananya wanted a key chain; one she could hang on the zipper of her school bag. Maybe it's a fad in school.

Every time we went to Crosswords or any other shop where keychains were on display, she would want one. I would show her the price tag and tell her why it didn't make sense to buy, specially when there were no keys to hang on them.

And then finally, the day before we made one from a 3-ply cardboard sheet. Cut it into a rectangle, covered it with a line green paper to match her new school bag and then wrote "not your bag"(inspired from a keychain in Crossword) on one side of it and her name on the other. We then tied it to her Zipper. She filled the colours within the letters.

Yesterday evening while we sat after dinner,
" will you be sad daddy,  if I remove this key chain?"
" No. Remove it if you don't like it"
" I like it but..."
"But?"
She then went on the graphically describe how some boys who were behind her in the queue for the transport back home read " not your bag" aloud and began to laugh.

"Don't remove the keychain because someone laughed at it. Remove it if you don't like it. Tell whoever laughs that the keychain is on your bag and they shouldn't be having a problem with it. Tell them that you and your father made it"

" Add stickers to it as you like. We'll change the colour if you want to"

Her eyes lit up and her lips broke into a bright smile. She removed her hand from the keychain. And patted it.

The keychain still stays.

I have a friend who is a boy
